- Opening circles, yoga, meditation, mindfulness

We build a robust, intentional curriculum for our campers that includes reflective identity immersion workshops, meaningful cultural and history sessions, inspiring speaker series, mindfulness and meditation circles, and joyful outdoor adventure and evening activities that bond us together as a community.
Our camp is intentionally designed to bring together a diverse spectrum of perspectives and experiences from across the South Asian diaspora – our campers learn how to perspective take and meaning make together, take risks, expand their conception of what it means to be “desi,” and what it means to truly belong.
We are one family
We are an intergenerational family at Camp Desi Roots. Every summer camp ends with a culminating “Family Picnic” where families come together to celebrate our kids, connect with each other, and build lifelong friendships that transcend our one week together.

Get ready for an unforgettable summer! Camp Desi Roots brings South Asian kids together for overnight camps filled with cultural discovery, new friendships, and exciting adventures.
Through workshops developed and run by skilled facilitators, campers explore their identities through questions like – Who am I? Where am I from? What does it mean to be Desi? Where do I situate myself within the South Asian diaspora? What is my experience of home, community, and belonging? How do I ground myself in my own voice and power? What can I learn about myself through the experience of others?
Each summer, we welcome South Asian organizers, artists, authors, and changemakers to share their stories with our campers as a way of expanding their sense of possibility around themselves and their communities, and empowering them to tap into their own voices, believe in themselves, and chart their own paths.
We are a family at Camp Desi Roots. Every year, camp culminates with a family gathering, where our families have the opportunity to come together for a joyful celebration of their kids and our community, and kids get to showcase what they’ve learned and built together.
WHERE WE GATHER
POCONO PLATEAU CAMP & RETREAT CENTER
Our camp takes place at the Pocono Plateau Camp & Retreat Center, a beautiful site with 750 acres of hardwood forest in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, about two hours from New York City and Philadelphia. Pocono Plateau is an American Camp Association (ACA) accredited campsite with certified, trained staff with decades of experience managing and running campsites.
